The old one-dimensional female archetypes -- the soccer mom, the starving artist, the successful-but-lonely boss lady -- are dead. Women are creating new, multidimensional archetypes and defying stereotypes.
The most fulfilled women are constantly creating in multiple areas of their lives, whereas burnout often happens when we feel like the routine of our day job is all we have time for. The Archetypal Woman Series is a tribute to inspiring women who rearrange time and space to explore and excel in a range of activities. May their stories encourage you to expand into your own uniqueness for the benefit of you and everyone in your orbit.
Editor's note: Conscious social media? It's a thing. Kundalini yoga teacher and social media expert Ashley Bauchman is elevating the game. If you're a small business owner in need of marketing help, take note! ~ Mary Margaret
Can you tell us a little bit about the work you do?
I’m essentially a social media and marketing doula. I create systems for small business owners to streamline their social media, online marketing and e-commerce. These systems come in the form of calendars, custom imagery packs and custom branding decks.
We are in a time of rapid change! What encouraging trends are you seeing in your industry?
I'm enjoying watching people step back from scrolling all day and taking more time to question how, why and what they’re consuming! Especially how social media and media in general makes them feel.
What are some practical tools you use to help manage your time and energy?
I have my non-negotiables for the day--like doing my skincare routine and still getting dressed like I'm going to go to work. I also LOVE LISTS. I like to make a list of things each week in order of priority. Like what absolutely has to get done today, what has a deadline and what is a little more abstract.
I try not to bite off more than I can chew during this time at home--because who knows when I will get to have this kind of time again. I also make sure to have time to do absolutely nothing, read or meditate to give my brain a break!
This is the Archetypal Woman Series, where we shine a spotlight on women who are bringing forth new, multidimensional ways of living and working. How would you describe the archetype you’re bringing onto the planet?
The archetype I'm trying to bring forward is a woman who is comfortable with herself and how she communicates that comfort to others. Being a woman that advocates for her individuality while still having a desire to serve the collective.
Can you tell us about a woman who has had significant impact on the trajectory of your career? What lessons did she impart?
Carla Richmond-Coffing gave me the confidence to pursue teaching Kundalini yoga in a way that felt comfortable to me. She’s provided me with so much wisdom and has actively given me a platform as a Black woman in Kundalini. Without her, I think it would have taken me much longer to understand energetic boundaries, confidence and honoring my womanhood.
What's next for you? Do you have any projects in the pipeline you'd like us to know about? How can we support you and your work?
I’ll be putting together a workshop that will focus on projection, confidence and communication for BIPOC women/female-identifying people that want to pursue wellness as a career! Support would look like showing me BIPOC femme creatives, healers, teachers and artists that I could elevate or feature during the course!
What message do you want to share with the world?
My biggest message will always be that everyone needs you to be you. The world needs new ideas, new faces and new ways of doing things.
